As a mobile abattoir, licensed in BC, we have certain regulations to which we must conform. As you read through the section on bringing your birds for processing note that -
- The CFIA inspector will inspect the birds, looking for healthy appearing birds with empty crops to ensure they don’t contaminate the processing line.
- The CFIA inspector inspects all the birds before he starts working inside the MPU. Poultry must be there by 7:30, even though they may not be slaughtered until later in the day.
- The CFIA inspector has the right to condemn any birds that appear sick or upon slaughter are discovered to be diseased or have infections. Condemned birds are humanely killed and removed from the slaughter facility. A condemned bird is not returned to its owner. A fee of $6.00 is charged if the bird had started the slaughter process.
